Restaurants we've visited in our travels and tips for our STAR family and friends when on the road and hungry!  The restaurant rating guide is as follows:  1 star = a very good restaurant; 2 stars = excellent cooking worth a detour; 3 stars = exceptional cuisine, worth a special journey. The price guide will let you know about what the entree will cost per person:  $ = 1.00 - 10.00; $$ = 11.00 - 20.00; $$$ = 21.00 - 30.00; $$$$ = 31.00 and up.

Sept. 23,2010 - The Coyote Kitchen - Boone, NC:  After having read the rave reviews for this restaurant in the "Our STATE" magazine, we decided to pay it a visit while in the area.  We started with an appetizer of fried plantains and chose the cranberry chipolte salsa (medium) for dipping.  We took the authors advice and ordered the TAOS Boat.  A combination of cornbread, black beans, sweet potatoes, fried plantains, roasted corn, roma tomatoes, and rosemary chicken all covered with melted Monterey Jack cheese and topped with guacamole and scallions.  You then pick a salsa to add...or not!  I chose the mango lime (mild) and Roy chose the pico di gallo (medium)...both were very good.  The magazine insists you try the pineapple habanero salsa (hot) with this...or if they are out to come back another day....but we don't do really hot stuff...so we decided to go our own way.  All in all we give this restarant three stars! $-$$

November 6, 2010 - Jim N Nicks BBQ, Charleston, SC - On our yearly visit to Charleston we, once again, had the great pleasure of enjoying the good food and great atmosphere of this restaurant.  A couple of Chapter members found it a few years back and some of our Chapter members have been lucky enough to visit at least once a year, but more if possible!  The menu favorite has to be their GIANT stuffed baked potato, Pig In The Potato Patch = pork and More Cluck For Your Buck = chicken and it comes in two sizes for your eatting pleasure....A Gracious Plenty and "Bring It On" Enormous.  You can get just about anything on the baked potato that you can think of, or enjoy it with just a few toppings, "The Not So Naked Potato". We guarantee the consumer two things about this meal, #1 that it will just about cover your plate and #2 that it will be more than you will be able to eat!  The downtown location we visit in Charleston is on King Street and is surrounded by some really nice shops, if you find the time to visit them, and was once an old apothocary.  The woodwork beautiful and the atmosphere is warm and inviting  We visit whenever we get a chance!  We give this restaurant 2 Stars - $-$$.
